KUCHING: A total of 95 students from schools throughout Sarawak scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00 in last year’s Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), says Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad.
Azhar, who is Sarawak Education Department director, added that the result showed an increase of 0.09 per cent compared to the 89 candidates in 2020.
In his speech at the 2021 STPM announcement ceremony yesterday at SMK Kubong Limbang, he said a total of 1,924 students had also earned a CGPA of above 3.00.
“Candidate Bryan Lim Kien Seng from SMK Sacred Heart Sibu is recognised as the 2021 STPM best candidate.
“Meanwhile, a special needs student, Nur Hamizah Mohd Fuzi from SMK Bako scored a CGPA of 3.42.”
He added that a total of 10 schools in Sarawak scored a CGPA of above 3.00.
The 10 schools are SMK Bako Kuching, SMK Sacred Heart Sibu, SMK Batu Lintang Kuching, SMK Merbau Miri, SMK Sungai Merah Sibu, SMK Green Road Kuching, SMK Kampung Nangka Sibu, SMK Saribas Betong, SMK Tung Hua Sibu and SMK Asajaya Samarahan.
“Furthermore, 44 schools out of a total of 78 achieved an improvement in CGPA,” he pointed out
He went on to say that in 2021, candidates in Sarawak saw an increase in the percentage of their chosen subjects’ passing rate compared to 2020, with the exception of accounting, which maintained a 100 per cent passing rate.
Azhar also said that 5,769 candidates sat for the 2021 STPM in Sarawak at 81 registered centres compared to 5,768 in 2020.
“Of this number, 5,745 candidates are school candidates, while the remaining 24 are private candidates.”
