96.5% employment rate for polytechnic graduates

KUCHING: More polytechnic and community college graduates are now able to find jobs within six months of completing their studies.

Statistics provided by Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (DPCCE) show that 96.5% of polytechnic graduates were employed within six months after they entered the labour force.

Meanwhile, 96.1% of community college graduates found jobs within six months.

Polytechnic Malaysia offers as many as 90 full-time programmes throughout the country, with seven homegrown bachelor’s programmes, 76 diplomas, two pre-diploma and five skill-based certificates.

The field of studies includes civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, petrochemical engineering, aircraft maintenance engineering, marine engineering, agro technology and bio-industry, food technology, information technology, design and visual communication, commerce, and tourism and hospitality.

Meanwhile, Community Colleges in Malaysia offer as many as 69 full time programmes with 19 diplomas, 42 certificates based programmes and eight special skills-based certificates.

The field of studies consists of science, mathematics and computer, social science, business and law, art and humanities, services, engineering, manufacturing and construction, and agriculture and veterinary.

Yesterday, Polytechnic Kuching appointed 11 Industry Advisory Committee members and 27 Industry Fellows from various backgrounds, industries and agencies.

There are three Premier Polytechnics, 28 Conventional Polytechnics and five METrO Polytechnics in Malaysia.

There are 103 community colleges throughout the country, with Johor and Perak having the most (14).
