KUCHING : The State Immigration Depar tment , through their ‘Hari-Hari Operasi’ dan ‘Konsep Gempur Terus Gempur’ programmes, has conducted 995 enforcement operations and inspected 22,233 foreigners in the state throughout this year. Its director Ken Leben said that the 995 operations (up until Dec 2) was an increase as compared to the 869 cases carried out last year.
He was speaking during the ‘Immigration Day Malaysia 2017’ celebration officiated by the Federal Secretary, Dato Mansor Man at the State Library here yesterday.
“Meanwhile, the Semuja Immigration Detention Centre (Depot Tahanan Semuja) in Serian has been audited by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) on Aug 8 this year and has been found to adhere to all of the rules,” he said.
He added that among the State Immigration’s outstanding achievements this year was its success in nabbing a syndicate of 19 foreigners who falsified safety stamps.
“In order to improve the department’s service delivery, the office in Sri Aman has been upgraded into a passport issuing office whereby residents living near Betong, Saratok, Lubok Antu, and Sarikei can get their passports without having to travel all the way to Kuching or Sibu,” he said.
Ken also informed that the department is currently constructing a new complex at the Ba’Kelalan border and another new building at the Semuja Immigration Detention Centre. “We wi l l al so s e t up the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Tebedu to serve the people better,” he said.
