KOTA SAMARAHAN: A team of police arrested a man in a raid at Taman Paradise here yesterday and found drugs in his possession.
State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said the 38-year-old attempted to escape after being surrounded around 2.45pm.
“During the raid, the suspect was alone at Lorong Paradise 1E. Upon inspecting the bag which was carried by the suspect, a small, transparent packet containing 5.23g of syabu worth RM800 was found,” he said in a statement.
Hasnir, however, said that the suspect tested negative after a urine test.
“We looked into his past records and the suspect did not engage in any criminal activities.”
Hasnir stated that the suspect was handed over to the Kota Samarahan NCID for further investigation.
“The suspect is currently on remand, while the case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“If convicted, the suspect could be jailed not more than five years or whipped not more than nine times,” he said.
