KUCHING: RM30,000 cash prizes await winners of the Petra Jaya Cup golf tournament which will be held at the Sarawak Golf Club, Petra Jaya, here this Saturday (Sept 7).
The organising chairman, Tan Sri Abang Khalid Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Marzuki said the competition is open to golfers from Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency.
“This is the 11th time it is being held since 2008.
Three categories will be contested, namely the women’s team, invitation and special invitation.
“For the team event, three teams will compete — ADUN Tupong, ADUN Samariang and ADUN Satok.
“Each team will consist of 40 players who are eligible voters in Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency,” he said at a press conference at the Sarawak Golf Club, Petra Jaya yesterday. Each team will be divided into three categories based on the handicap, namely category A for handicaps 0 to 12, category B (handicaps 13-18) and category C (handicaps 19-24).
The winning team will be decided by the overall score of the seven best players in each of the A, B, C categories and the team will receive the
trophy along with trophies for 21 of them who score the best.
ADUN Tupong’s team leader is Talhah Effendi while ADUN Samariang’s team will be led Syed Zyed Wan Asnawi and ADUN Satok’s team by Sukman Said.
Last year’s championship was won by ADUN Satok.
There will be no hole-in-one prize but it will be replaced by a 16-inch television for nearest to the pin winner. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the prize giving ceremony at a dinner held at a hotel here.
