MIRI: A motorcyclist died after colliding with a van at the Pujut 7 traffic light intersection yesterday at 5.20am.
The 22-year-old motorcyclist identified as Muhammad Nur Syafiq Misad was heading towards Lutong from the city centre, while the van was coming from Permyjaya to Piasau when the accident occurred.
According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the van was believed to have run a red light and crashed into the motorcyclist.
Following the collision, the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the van escaped unhurt. The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
