KUCHING: The Rainforest World Puppet Carnival is making its way once again to the heart of Sarawak.
The global festival, which will feature 56 puppeteers, will be held on Nov 11-16 at the Old Courthouse Auditorium here.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah viewed that the programme will be a platform to promote the state in line with their Visit Sarawak campaign.
He revealed that the six-day programme is organised by Sarawak Arts and Handicrafts Association (Sahsa) and will feature participants from 17 other nations.
“Among those involved are Argentina, Korea, India, Australia, China, Indonesia, Albania, Mexico, Philippines, Bulgaria, Peru, Belgium, Turkey, Russia, Vietnam, Romania and Thailand along with Malaysia.”
He told reporters in a press conference yesterday that various activities are in store for the event, such as puppet performances and puppet-making workshop which are tailored for all ages. While admission is free, Abdul Karim pointed out that the seats are limited to only 300 participants at one time.
On the number of tourists that visited the state for 2019, he revealed that the figure has climbed to 3,366,922 tourists as of last month and most of them are from India and the Philippines.
Also present during the press conference were Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting and ministry permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee.
