KUCHING: A viral social media post in which a mother claimed an unknown person attempted to abduct her child at Plaza Merdeka here on Thursday has caught the attention of fellow netizens.
According to the post on Facebook, the pregnant mother claimed the kidnap attempt on her child happened while the kid was waiting for the woman’s husband who had gone to the restroom.
She said that the incident had caused her to experience trauma.
The posting was shared 3,900 times with over 1,200 comments from fellow netizens expressing concern over security and sympathy towards the alleged victim.
District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani when contacted said police have yet to receive any report regarding the matter as of press time.
“We have yet to receive any report regarding the matter and therefore, request the victim to lodge a report so that investigation can be carried out,” he said.
Meanwhile, Plaza Merdeka on its Facebook page said the management was willing to co-operate with the victim including lodging a police report regarding the incident.
“We take this unfortunate incident seriously and we sympathise with your traumatic experience. We would assist you in the investigation in whatever way we can. We are most willing to share our CCTV footage and to run through it with you, it would also enable us to have a better understanding of the incident.
“Please note that our team can assist you in lodging a police report. Please come forward to us,” the posting said.
