The lack of allocation now does not spell the end for the proposed maintenance and upgrading work of the irrigation and drainage infrastructures in the paddy scheme area of Lubok Nibong.

Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Assistant Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn (pic) stated that the project will be included in the Food Basket development as well as listed for the 12th Malaysia Plan for consideration and approval by the federal government.

He said this in reply to a question from Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz (GPS-Kalaka) on the plans to upgrade the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) project in Lubok Nibong in the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

“The maintenance works in Lubok Nibong paddy scheme were carried out on an area of 196 hectares covering ‘jalan batu’ and trenches. This costs about RM260,576 and most of them have been completed,” he added.

He further stated that the Department of Agriculture Sarawak has channelled assistance of Skim Baja Padi Kerajaan Persekutuan (SBPKP) and Skim Insentif Pengeluaran Padi (SIPP) to 225 farmers at the Lubok Nibong paddy scheme area.

“To date, a total of 1,830 bags of compound fertiliser, 732 bags of urea fertiliser and 1,000 bags of NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium) fertiliser have been channelled,” he said.
