KUALA LUMPUR: National elite Paralympic athlete, Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi managed to secure bronze medal in the men’s 100m T36 (cerebral palsy) event at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirate on Sunday.
“The 2018 Best Asian Male Para Athlete winner clocked 11.97 seconds and the time was not far from his personal best of 11.87 seconds he posted at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Para Games,” according to the Paralympics website www.paralympics.org.
Australian athlete, James Turner set the new world record of 11.72 seconds en route to clinch the gold medal while Yang Yifei of China claimed the silver with a new Asian record of 11.79 seconds, erasing the previous record held by Mohamad Ridzuan in Jakarta.
For the record, Mohamad Ridzuan or fondly known as Dikwan had won the gold medal in the same event in 2015 edition in Doha, Qatar, while in 2017 edition in London, he secured the silver medal.
The bronze medal from the 32-year-old athlete saw Malaysia amassed three medals, including two silvers from Jonathan Wong Kar Gee in the men’s long jump T12 category (vision impairment) and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli in the men’s shot put T20 (learning disability). – Bernama
