MUKAH: A pilot liquid sago waste treatment plant has been built in Kampung Teh here and is seen as a research and development (R&D) breakthrough in the sago industry. A villager, who wanted to be identified as Yong, said that the plant would be involved in the production of natural gas from sago waste.
“With the existence of the plant, wastes from sago factory will no longer be thrown away, but will be fully utilised to produce gas,” he said when met recently.
During a visit to the dome-shaped plant here yesterday, New Sarawak Tribune could not obtain any information as the officer in charge of the plant did not want to disclose any information until the official launching ceremony on Nov 23.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the launch of the plant. Meanwhile, a survey found that the plant had been built sometime ago.
According to a signage at its entrance, the landowner is Nitsei Sago Industries Sdn Bhd, Mukah while the employer is CRAUN Research Sdn Bhd (CRAUN), Kuching and Hyup Soon Industries Sdn Bhd, Bintulu is the main contractor of the plant.
Standard Institute of Research Industries Malaysia (SIRIM) Berhad, Shah Alam, Selangor is the plant and process engineers.
If the name of the parties involved in the development of the plant as indicated on the signboard is anything to go by, CRAUN could have made a breakthrough in sago research, specifically in liquid sago waste.
This is definitely good news to the sago industry and the environment as it would certainly help to reduce pollution especially water. It is learned that CRAUN has been involved in sago R&D for many years and the liquid sago waste treatment plant is believed to be one of its findings.
