KUCHING: A total of 18 renowned Malaysian and international speakers are expected to talk on the field of digital economy during the inaugural International ICT Infrastructure and Digital Economy Conference (IDECS) to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from 3 to 4 April.
Being the brainchild of the Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg, IDECS will be a platform for exchange of opinions and to find a resolve on the state’s economy and investment issues.
Apart from that, the conference will be a platform to share the best practices in digitalised services such as Grab, LAZADA and many more.
“Johari has given a focus on the growth of technology and deliberating on how it can help spur the state’s economy in a new direction.
“Themed ‘Transforming Sarawak Through Digital Economy’, the conference will focus on creating an awareness of the digital economy for local businesses including those in rural areas to tap into larger markets, thus expanding the state’s economy,” said State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani during a press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here yesterday.
Also in attendance were two Deputy State Secretaries, Datu Ismawi Ismuni and Dr. Sabariah Putit. Morshidi, who is also the Chairman of IDECS said that the delegates of the conference would comprise those from the private sector, start ups, small and medium enterprises, government agencies and university students.
“Registration can be made online at www.idecs.sarawak.gov.my and a fee of RM1,500 for Malaysians and USD500 for foreigners.
“Delegates who register in groups up to five are entitled to a group discount of RM1,200 and USD500, for Malaysian and foreign delegates respectively. Early birds who register before 17 March can also enjoy a 10 per cent discount,” said Morshidi.
The fee includes conference materials, tea breaks, luncheons and a welcome dinner. Registration closes on 31 March.
Some of the notable speakers are Don Tapscott (world renown speaker), Mark Smalley (Co-Founder and CEO of neuroware.io), Sean Goh (Head of Grab Malaysia) and Hans Peter-Ressel (CEO of LAZADA Malaysia).
Johari, who is the Patron of the conference will also be present to grace the launching ceremony of the conference on 3 April.
