KUCHING: The Sarawak Underprivileged Carnival (Kokus) 2019 will begin a week from now. Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this after chairing the Kokus main committee meeting at the Baitulmakmur Building in Petra Jaya yesterday.
The inaugural carnival to be held at University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) on Nov 23 has attracted 567 participants and 206 officials.
“The teams will be heading to Unimas from every division and will arrive as early as Friday (Nov 22) because by Saturday (Nov 23) they will all be there.”
The carnival features three components namely, sports, Abilympics and talents.
In sports, there will be 478 athletes. Only 10 sports will now be competed after archery is scrapped because of a lack of participants.
In Abilympics, there will be 62 participants. There will be seven skill competitions this time — minus photography and wood-carving both of which are short of participants.
In talents, there will be 121 participants in three categories namely, solo singing, solo instrumental and dance.
