SIBU: Two vacant double-storey terraced houses at Jalan Punai were destroyed in a morning fire yesterday.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they were alerted to the fire around 3.55am.
Firefighters from Sibu town and Sungai Merah fire stations were deployed to scene.
When they arrived, the fire was at its peak, engulfing a corner house and one adjacent to it.
The fire was brought under control by 4.15am and the operation ended at 5.50am.
The corner house was completely destroyed while the adjacent one was partly destroyed (mainly the ceiling). Fortunately, no one was hurt or killed by the fire.
Separately, a multi-purpose vehicle went up in flames at Abang Kipali Roundabkut AT Jalan Matang Baru yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters from Petra Jaya rushed to the scene after receiving a report of the fire at 1.14pm. They completed their task at 1.30pm.
The engine compartment was already completely destroyed when the firemen arrived.
It was a good thing that the driver managed to get away unharmed.
