KUCHING: Any effort to encourage youth involvement in the food truck industry will continue to get the backing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Branch.

The branch’s deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg, said the state government saw huge opportunities in the food truck industry for young people.

“This industry has started to get the attention of the public, especially millennials. Starting with two entrepreneurs in 2013, today there are 49 food truck entrepreneurs operating here in Kuching,” he said in his speech before declaring open Satok Street Fest 2019 at a parking lot under the Satok flyover yesterday.

According to him, providing space for food truck traders in Satok area was a great move to attract more visitors since the location was strategically in the financial district.

“Look at the surroundings, Satok is a great place for traders to grow their businesses. By developing this space, I believe it could help to provide another place for visitors and thus enhancing the state’s tourism industry,” he said.

“We hope with this allocation, the association can provide this space with better amenities and programmes to attract the public.

“The great number of visitors can encourage more millennials to get involved in the food truck industry,” he said.
