BAU: Tasik Biru constituency will see another new development with the establishment of a gold mine museum and park once the project is approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Its assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said he had submitted the museum plan to the state government.
“This museum will be based on the ones in Waihi town in New Zealand and Sovereign Hill in Australia. Both places are known for gold mining just like Bau,” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the 60th Tasik Biru Festival yesterday.
He said Tarik Biru in particular and Bau in general has a lot to offer to tourists.
“Tasik Biru is famous for gold mining in the olden days. I believe that once the museum is completed, more visitors will come,” he said, adding that at the same time it would educate visitors on the history of gold mining in Bau.
“The museum will be located near the old mine site which is in the vicinity of Tasik Biru. Although gold mining has long stopped, visitors to the museum will be taken to tour the actual mining area,” he said.
The museum which would include a recreation park would cost around RM26 million.
Henry, who is also the patron of the Tasik Biru Festival, said about 30,000 visitors had come for the three-day festival which ended yesterday.
“For next year we will organise something different to attract more visitors not only locals but also tourists from outside Sarawak,” he said.
Kuching Resident Sherrina Hussaini who officiated at the festival’s closing ceremony, congratulated the organiser for having attracted a huge crowd.
