KUCHING: Federal civil servants in Sarawak will receive special bonus of RM500 from the Sarawak government in appreciation for their services.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the special financial aid will be paid by June next year.
“This RM500 is in addition to the RM500 they will receive from the federal government, so that makes a total of RM1,000,” he said at the end of the State Civil Service Day celebration at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
Abang Johari noted that there were more than 90,000 federal civil servants in Sarawak.
“Most of them are serving as teachers, health officers and police personnel, and many of them are in the rural areas,” the chief minister said.
Earlier, in his speech, he reiterated that state civil servants would receive a bonus of two months’ basic salary or a minimum of RM2,000 before Christmas.
“For federal civil servants in Sarawak, I will find a way. Maybe in terms of incentives.
“Let us pray that Sarawak stays peaceful and prosperous so that we can increase the state’s revenue,” the chief minister said.
Abang Johari had earlier said that the same bonus given to state civil servants cannot be given to federal civil servants due to a difference in policy between the Sarawak and federal governments.
