KUCHING: Some 30 members of the Ministry of Growth (Grow with the Handicapped) from St Joseph’s Cathedral here were all smiles after they received Christmas gifts at the Growth annual Christmas party yesterday.
The party was held at the Archdiocesan Curia and Cathedral Pastoral Centre (ACCPC) here and jointly organised by the Ministry of Growth, Lions Club of Kuching City and Leo Club of SM Lodge.
“This charity event lets the disabled and special needs children come together and celebrate Christmas with their family members and caregivers,” said Lions Club of Kuching City president Roger Ting.
He said that aside from the Christmas gifts, the members also received door gifts which include basic toiletries.
Ministry of Growth president Josh John told New Sarawak Tribune, “This programme is a good way for society to appreciate those who are less fortunate ― to help them celebrate and enjoy the festive season as well.”
He added that the Christmas gifts amounted to about RM3,000.
Various activities were held during the party including Christmas carolling and a lucky draw.
The annual Christmas party was established in 2003 by volunteers and parents of children with disabilities and joined by Lions Club of Kuching City about 11 years ago.
Also present were Lions Club of Kuching City past district governor Tan Soh Har as well as chairperson and past president Vincent Tan.
