KUCHING: The state is interested in expanding its trade and collaboration ties with the Indonesian government in sectors and industries such as telecommunication, food and halal, health, and education.
This was said by Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh during the welcoming dinner for delegates from Malaysia and Indonesia of the Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) meeting at Grand Margarita Hotel here on Thursday.
Representing the Chief Minister, Wong said JTIC is a strategic platform for both countries to strengthen the cooperation in trade and investment.
“I am sure this committee would provide an opportunity for the ministers and officials to foster a closer working relationship and networking for the betterment of trade between both countries.
“Hence, we hope to foster closer cooperation to strengthen bilateral trade between the two regions.
“As highlighted in the meeting, we have full hope and confidence for this committee to help Sarawak by resolving various issues pertaining to the border trade between Sarawak and West Kalimantan, especially in Tebedu – Entikong.
“We hope the trade will be normalised soon for the benefit of both sides as we foresee more socio-economic benefits to the local traders and local community as a result of the normalisation of trade in Tebedu,” he said.
Also present during the event were federal Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and the Republic of Indonesia’s Minister for Trade Enggartiasto Lukita.
