KUCHING: The people must inculcate healthy lifestyle into their daily routine, said Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
She assured that her ministry would provide the necessary support to efforts aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle practices among the people.
“The foundation for a country to be able to steadily progress is its people who live in a healthy environment. If we practise and appreciate the importance of healthy living, the country will produce robust generations in the future,” she said when launching a ‘Dapur W.I Sihat, Ceria Selamat’ programme at Mydin Mart Petra Jaya yesterday.
Stressing the importance of healthy eating and lifestyle, Fatimah said women’s role was vital in ensuring the food served to the family is balanced and nutritious.
“Eating healthy meals as a habit should be instilled from young so that it becomes a lifelong habit and culture,” she added.
While expressing concern on the alarming rate of obesity in the country, she encouraged the public, especially women in Sarawak to plant vegetables and fruits to improve healthy eating.
“We are concerned for the people’s health due to lack of nutrition and overeating. “Planting these nutritious greens not only can help to improve health but also helps to generate income especially among women,” she said
