The proprietor of Petanak Beach Chalet & Café, Abdul Aziz Muraee (2nd right) presents a trophy to one of the winners during the prize presentation ceremony.

MUKAH: Salui Jolamas emerged champion in the Lumba Salui Lakut (traditional miniature boat race) held at Kampung Petanak here last weekend.

A boat belonging to Reza Kamil won in the Champions Category after defeating Ekan Moha 1, owned by Mohd Aizat while the third spot went to Kasumajaya’s boat, Permata Intan Kasih.

In the Promising Category, Wira Gerak Pantas 1 owned by Norazelan Haji Bahron won first place while in second was Abdul Rahman, the owner of a boat called Kapas Emas. Mohd Syablizam Tan with his boat called Nyenyaru won third place.

Ninety-six miniature boat owners took part in the boat races organised by Kelab Rekreasi Gerak Pantas Petanak in collaboration with Petanak Beach Chalet & Café (PBCC), Kelab Anak Dagang and The Slapar Band Busking.

Prizes to the winners were presented by Petanak Beach Chalet & Café (PBCC) proprietor, Abdul Aziz Muraee.

This traditional miniature boat is made of light wood with its sail using leaves of a wild plant called Lukut. The event is now one of the most popular water based recreational and sports activities in Mukah and Dalat Districts.
