KUCHING: The new Maternity and Children Health Clinic (KKIK) near Kampung Bintawa here is expected to begin operation in early February next year.
The clinic, which was completed recently with some final fixtures to be done, was built at a cost of RM600,000 under the state government’s Rural Transformation Plan (RTP).
To provide a conducive environment for patients, especially pregnant mothers, Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar yesterday told that another RM300,000 would be added to build parking space and extend the fences at the clinic’s compound.
“This will be assigned under the year 2020 RTP plan,” he said when met at the new clinic here in Kampung Bintawa.
Describing the new clinic as far better than the previous one, Wan Junaidi said that the process to transfer healthcare equipment from the previous building would be undertaken by Kuching Health Department.
“We also hope that the process to transfer the equipments to the clinic will goes well.
“Currently the equipments are being kept at the Tanah Putih Clinic,” he added.
Wan Junaidi also hoped that the completion of the single-storey clinic would benefit 16,000 residents of Kampung Bintawa and surrounding areas.
“This project is a gift to the people, and it is a long-awaited one by the locals especially villagers of Kampung Bintawa and Kampung Boyan here,” he added.
The new clinic, according to Kuching Division health officer Dr Azlee Ayub, would be accommodated by 12 staff including two medical officers.
