KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will continuously work on efforts to improve recreational parks.
Its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said, “At the moment, we (MBKS) are looking into spaces such as recreational parks that will bring people together.
“This is important because we need to connect everyone together as technology nowadays has driven everyone apart.”
He continued on saying that it is not only for the children and adults, but also families.
“Apart from that, we are also looking into urban poor issues as well as the Old Padungan concept to find ways to revive Padungan’s heritage value,” he said when met by reporters during his Chinese New Year open house at his residence in Jalan Chua Say Chat last Saturday.
On the matter of implementing a straw ban in the city like what Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) did, Wee said they would start implementing the ban at hawker centres first.
“We will start with that first before we spread (the ban) to other parts of MBKS.
“It is everyone’s duty to learn how to take care of our Earth. It is not going to be easy — we need a high level of awareness on it,” he said.
