KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will be holding the Pre Asia Pacific Orchic Conference (APOC) 2017 from 23 to 27 August at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.
Themed “Back to Nature”, the event is held in conjunction with the 13th APOC which will be held from 24 to 29 July, 2019.
“In line with the state government’s vision to organise more international events in the state, DBKU has won the bid to be the host for the 13th APOC.
“The triennial event was held since 1984 in Japan and other countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Korea and China have already held them in their major cities.
“The conference is mainly held to emphasise research and biotechnology, conversations, as well as orchid tourism and orchid’s commercialisation,” Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai told a press conference held at Stadium Perpaduan here yesterday.
Apart from that, Wahap also announced that there would be an International Orchid Landscape Competition. The participating countries would be Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, Brunei and Myanmar.
