KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) recently pointed out that Sarawakians were being regionalistic and that this would be an issue in the coming state election.

Political commentator, Datuk Peter Minos, however, disagreed with the party’s viewpoint.

He pointed out that DAP’s Lim Guan Eng went all out to help Penang when he was Chief Minister and still did so even though he was now Finance Minister.

Minos said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was simply doing his job when he did his best to fight for Sarawak and urged Sarawakians to fully support him in his endeavours.

“There is nothing regionalistic about that.

“And wanting to catch up with Malaya, to advance and progress socially and economically — that is Sarawak’s hope.

“You can’t say that Sarawakians are regionalistic when helping themselves and their state. If they do not do so, who else will care and help?

“Not Pakatan Harapan (PH), nor DAP neither People’s Justice Party (PKR), which nastily cut funds on approved projects to the state and are doing everything to topple the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in the hope of grabbing the state for themselves,” he said in his press statement.

Minos added that only Sarawakians and the Chief Minister were sincere in developing the state, not outsiders.

“Only Sarawak’s state leaders know and understand Sarawak and its people.

“Outsiders are not expected to have any kind or nice feelings for the state, as many merely pretend and play “lip service”.

“All the outsiders ever want to do is to grab and snatch the state’s resources like oil and gas, and after doing that, they give Sarawak the cold shoulder and treat (Sarawak) badly, even suing the state,” he stated.

“That is what PH and Petronas are doing right now,” he added.

“Why blame Sarawakians if they feel bad and down at seeing that the state is being bullied and economically suppressed? What if Sarawakians go and grab things in Johor or Kelantan? They, too, will howl and shout.”

Minos added that Sarawakians had all the rights in this world to enjoy the resources found in the state.

“Therefore, outsiders must not and cannot say that Sarawakians are being regionalistic when fighting for their rights and interests.

“Like others and outsiders, Sarawakians have all the rights in this world to grow and prosper from resources found in the state and these are their inalienable rights, to use the legal jargon,” he said.
