SERIAN: Residents of Kampung Panchor Dayak will have continous clean water supply by July this year.
Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the RM4 million water supply project in the village was expected to be ready by then.
He added the project would resolve the low water pressure problem that had plagued the area.
“This is because it can provide ample treated water which will benefit some 140 households in Kampung Panchor Dayak,” he said.
He was officiating at the launch of Kampung Panchor Dayak Water Supply Project here yesterday.
Dr Rundi said that the project was one of the 12 in the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) for Tarat Constituency.
He added that the state government allocated RM2.8 billion to resolve the water problem in stressed areas. Altogether, there were 322 such projects.
“We always try to understand the needs of the people. This project is to ensure that water can be supplied to the targeted area,” he said.
Dr. Rundi said that, as a whole, Sarawak needed RM18 billion to resolve the water problems statewide.
“We have the Main Water Grid Plan until 2025 which ensures that water supply can be channelled throughout the state,” he said.
He urged communities who faced water problems to lodge complaints with the relevant authorities and not in the social media.
“We want the problems to be resolved, not sensationalised,” he said.
Also present were Utilities Assistant Minister (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Utilities Assistant Minister (Rural Electricity) Datuk Liwan Lagang and Native Land Development Assistant Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
