SIBU: Heavy rain yesterday, which resulted in rising flood waters, forced 98 pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Balingiau in Kanowit to go home during recess.

The school senior assistant I Donald Slan, when contacted yesterday, said they had to resort to such measure as the water kept on rising due to continuous rain since 6am.

“The flood water is between one to three feet high and it is still rising (as at 10am yesterday). We have to ask the pupils to go home or else they would be stranded at the school later,” he said.

He added that the Primary 1 to 5 pupils were placed at the school computer lab while those from Primary 6 at the teachers’ quarters.

Meanwhile, SK Sungai Tuah, another school in Kanowit, was also affected by a flood.

However, classes went on as usual for the 53 pupils of the school as the water level was not high.
