KUALA LUMPUR: China reported 397 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus with 109 deaths as of Feb 21 (Friday), increasing the total fatalities in the country to 2,345 so far.
The Chinese Embassy in Malaysia in its Facebook posting today said 106 new deaths were recorded in the outbreak’s epicentre in Hubei Province with one each in Hebei, Shanghai and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
It added that 2,393 new cases were cured and discharged, 26,441 people were released from medical observation and 156 severe cases decreased.
“As of 24:00 on Feb 21, there were 53,284 confirmed cases, among which 11,477 were severe cases, 20,659 people had been discharged from hospital after recovery, 2,345 cases of death and 5,365 suspected cases,” it added.
The National Health Commission had a total of 76,288 confirmed cases, 618,915 close contacts have been tracked and 113,564 people were receiving medical observation.
The novel coronavirus disease, dubbed COVID-19 by the World Health Organisation (WHO), was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China’s Hubei province, in late December 2019 and has since spread to more than 25 other countries.
