Famous rock formation at Trusan Beach collapses

MIRI: A rock formation resembling a horse drinking water at Tusan Beach in Bekenu has collapsed.

According to sources, the famous natural wonder   collapsed two days ago.

Tusan Beach’s most famous iconic landmark, the ‘horse drinking water’ rock formation, is gone.

The rock formation was one of the most iconic treasures and a major tourist attraction on the beach.

Some nearby villagers, when met on Saturday, believed that the rock formation might have collapsed because of strong waves in the past few days.

In all its glory, the ‘horse drinking water’ rock formation has been a favourite among beach goers, visitors and photographers.

A brief check at the site on Saturday by the New Sarawak Tribune showed that the main part of the horse head had totally caved in.

Meanwhile, Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting, when met during his visit to the scene, described it as an unfortunate incident.

Ting has rushed to the scene that morning after being notified.

“It is a very sad day for us in Miri that this natural wonder has caved in and I will propose to my ministry that a replica resembling the collapsed rock formation be built at the location,” he said.

“We will look into possibility of re-building it. It is a very sad day for Miri.  One of the jewels of Miri tourist attractions is gone,” he wrote.

Tusan Beach is located at about 40 minutes’ drive from Miri City via the Miri Coastal Road.

Last year, the state government allocated RM6 million to upgrade the beach and build several recreational facilities there.

The facilities include a food court, a gazebo and a busker’s plaza.
