MUKAH: A Chinese community arch has been proposed to be built in this town soon.
It is learned that the idea to build it was mooted by Mukah Chinese Community Organisation (MCCO).
MCCO in its invitation letter, had fixed Feb 28 for the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed arch project.
The junction of Jalan Tiong Hua here had been identified as the site for the project.
It is also learned that Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo is expected to officiate at the ceremony at 8am.
MCCO chairperson Mary Ting said the authorities had approved the RM168,888 project.
“The arch will be a landmark and symbol of unity of the Chinese community here,” she said to New Sarawak Tribune through WhatsApp yesterday.
According to her, Jalan Tiong Hua was chosen because it was the place where the Chinese community believed to be first settled and stayed many decades ago.
She added when completed, the arch would the first and main one in town.
