KUCHING: Sarawak for Sarawakian (S4S) has commended Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak’s (Aspirasi) move to form a new alliance called Sarawak Baru (SB) with like-minded local political parties.
An S4S member KC Tan said he personally believed that Aspirasi president Lina Soo was doing the right thing in forming this new alliance to become what she called the ‘third force’ in Sarawak politics.
Asked if S4S would join SB, Tan said there should not be problem for them to work together.
“I’m sure she (Lina) will discuss with us on this,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
He said it would be a good move for all local opposition parties to come together and fight on a common front.
“Aspirasi is fighting for Sarawak to have a referendum, and I hope it succeeds,” he said.
On Feb 23, Lina invited Sarawak-based parties aside from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form a new SB alliance.
She welcomed parties such as Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and S4S movement into the new alliance.
“We are forming the SB alliance which will be the third force that will become a check and balance on both GPS and PH,” she said.
She pointed out that it was important for the parties to unite and fight on a common front together rather than fighting among each other.
“We cannot fight so many people at one time, if we can combine as one force to fight PH and GPS, we will have a greater chance, it makes sense. We don’t exclude anyone, we want to unite,” she said.
New Sarawak Tribune has tried to reach out to PSB for comments but has not been successful as at press time.
