ASAJAYA: The Asajaya Career Carnival 2020 Mini Programme received an overwhelming response from the public yesterday.

As early as 8am, youth from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian were seen taking the opportunity to secure employment at the carnival.

Sarawak Labour Department Employment Services Division head Asmarina Othman said the mini carnival was the department’s initiative to bring together employers who offered employment opportunities to those who live far from urban areas.

“It will ease the locals by saving time and transportation costs,” she said when met during the carnival at Kampung Tambirat Multipurpose Hall.

Asmarina said this year, more than 15,000 job vacancies have been offered. Last year, a total of 15,203 vacancies were offered and 2,235 job seekers were successfully recruited.

“For this year, our department has planned fifteen similar programmes, nine career carnivals and one Transborneo Career Tour in collaboration with the Sabah Labour Department.

“This means that a total of 25 career carnivals will be organised by the Sarawak Labour Department throughout the year and will certainly benefit job seekers in Sarawak,” she said.
