KUCHING: The Sri Aman Divisional Disaster Committee will be setting up several temporary Covid-19 quarantine centres in Sri Aman Division. At the moment, the district is unaffected by the virus.

Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said yesterday, “The first centre will be at Sri Aman Rest House which can accommodate five persons.

“We have also proposed the trainee nurses’ dormitory near Sri Aman Health Clinic after a site visit to the location. The room can accommodate 14 persons at once.

“The other potential place will be the trainee assistant medical officers’ dormitory at Jalan Sabu, Sri Aman; it can accommodate 24 persons but needs to be upgraded and refurnished with equipment.

“In Lubok Antu district, we have proposed the Batang Ai Community Service Centre to be one of the temporary quarantine centres.

“It can accommodate 14 persons at one time while in the Engkilili sub-district, the proposed quarantine centre is at the government rest house that can accommodate three persons.”

Francis, who is also the Community Wellbeing assistant minister, was relieved that Sri Aman is still unaffected by the Covid-19 virus.

“This is due to the preparation and steps taken to curb the deadly virus from spreading to the public,” he said.

He added that screening centres had been set up at the Sri Aman Health Clinic and Sri Aman Hospital.

In Lubok Antu district, a Covid-19 screening centre was set up at Lubok Antu Health Clinic.

“Those going to the clinic must be screened before they go for their treatments.

“The screening centre at the hospital premises is for members of the public or visitors to screen themselves,” he said.

Francis said the people in Sri Aman Division were complying with the movement control order (MCO) which was implemented on Mar 18 and extended to Apr 14.

“Apart from that, longhouses are barring visitors and have put up restriction notices at their entrances. Those who ignore the notices will be fined,” he added.
