KUCHING: The Federal government has been urged to reduce the income tax rates for personal and business entities during this Covid-19 crisis.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Women chief Kho Teck Wan, in response to the RM250 billion economic stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said reducing the income tax rates is equivalent to giving cash to the people and business owners.
“Reducing income tax doesn’t require extra paperwork and no extra application needed. It will greatly reduce the time needed to process subsidy and loan applications,” she said.
She believed that this move will ease the burden of both business owner and employee, thus businesses can sustain longer and will be able to retain more employees to help the country push through this pandemic.
“The RM250 billion stimulus package tried to cover all the people including from students to veterans, business owners to employees, and government servants,” she said.
She is also glad to see substantial amount is allocated to medical supplies and health care providers to fight Covid-19.
“The prime minister’s economy stimulus package is not perfect. However like he said, we are facing this unprecedented crisis together. In fact, the whole world is fighting this invisible enemy.
“Therefore, I hope my fellow Sarawakians will stand united, stay at home, give whenever we can, help one another and with that we will win this war. This too shall pass,” she said.
