DEBAK: Two unemployed individuals, who were arrested for violating the movement control order (MCO) here, admitted they were aware of the enforcement of the order, said Betong District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Zamry Alli.
However, both
tried to escape arrests.
According to him, the police have always acted in accordance with the law.
“I want to emphasise that we will act decisively including arresting
anyone who violates the MCO for the public’s interest,” he said in a
statement yesterday.
Zamry added that the duo aged 30 and 18 from the Kampung Debak Laut said the duo refused to cooperate and tried to
escape when asked to show their identity cards.
“Our personnel then detained the suspects for further investigations,” he said, adding that they had failed to provide a reasonable excuse to remain outside during the MCO period.
During the
arrest, a blue Honda EX5 motorcycle was also seized.
Zamry added that the case is being investigated further under Section 186 of
the Penal Code and Regulation 7 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious
Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Areas) 2020.
Meanwhile, in Saratok, three youth between the ages of 15 and 20 were arrested for a similar offence.
Saratok District Police Chief Superintendent Mordani Tanin, who confirmed the case, said they were found wandering around outside after 7pm.
