KUCHING: The Sarawak government has decided not to allow Ramadan and Gawai bazaars this year to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
As such, he said, traders and consumers are encouraged to use online transaction, through e-Ramadan bazaar, to supply or order food, or other necessities, during the fasting month and also for their preparations for Gawai Day, which is celebrated on June 1.
“The Ramadan bazaar is (usually) held in the towns and areas in the outskirts. This e-Ramadan bazaar is an effort to make it easy for the public to order food during Ramadan, and also for Gawai bazaar,” he told a media conference at an event to symbolise the sending of food aid to rural residents in Miri.
The food aid is part of the package under the state government’s assistance that was announced last March 23. – Bernama
