TATAU: Tatau District is still free from Covid-19, said Native Laws and Customs Assistant Minister Datuk John Sikie Tayai.

Amidst growing number of cases in other districts, he was thankful the district was still listed as a green zone.

He reminded everyone that it was their responsibility to ensure that the district remained safe and free from the virus.

“I urge everyone to continue obeying the movement control order (MCO) including staying at home, practising social distancing and washing their hands frequently.

“I also thank the local community for the good cooperation given to the frontliners on duty in the distribution of food supply,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sikie, who is also Kakus assemblyman, disclosed that while the delivery of the State Food Aid continued, a total of 1,129 households received the assistance on Wednesday.

“Although many of the villages and longhouses were located deep in the remote areas, that did not stop the Kakus Service Centre team and government agencies from delivering the food assistance.

“The journey started as early as 9am from Tatau and the mission to send the assistance to Ulu Kakus areas ended at 9pm,” he said.

Among the longhouses that received the assistance were Rh Edwin Engkulau, Rh Paren, Rh Taa, Rh Degom and Rh Dasi which involved 113 households.

The assistance was also delivered to Kampung Dagang Tatau which involved 151 households.

Previously, Sikie said there were 6,243 households in the constituency and he assured that each of them would get the food assistance allocated by the state government.

The assistance in the form of essential food items such as rice, sugar, tea, coffee, etc, aimed at easing the burden of the people affected by the MCO which was implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19.
