KAPIT: The roof of several rooms of a 26-door longhouse – Rumah Nading at Nanga Seladang, Gaa’t, Baleh near here, was blown off by strong wind Monday evening. Also affected were the store houses erected near the longhouse.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap although the affected rooms were exposed to the mercy of the weather.
It is learnt that the roof was only recently replaced with assistance from the state government.
The chairman of JKKK Rumah Nading has lodged a report of the incident to Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga and the Baleh and Hulu Rajang Services Centre.
On Wednesday, Pungga accompanied by Nicholas Kudi Jantai, a political secretary to the chief minister, Kapit Welfare officer Dariel Thiong, and officers from other government agencies visited the longhouse to assess the extent of the damage.
Kapit Welfare Department also distributed essential food items to the affected villagers.
