MUKAH: It was good business on the first day of Ramadan for roti john seller Mohd Hafiz Abdul Mutalib as he successfully sold 400 pieces on Friday.
He said his father’s stall opened for business from 12noon to 5pm on the first day of the fasting month.
According to the 18-year-old youth, his father prepared roti john and he together with his younger brother helped man the stall, located in front of their house in Kampung Penakub Permai here.
“All the 400 pieces prepared by my father on Friday were sold out, and today (yesterday) he makes another 400,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Four types of roti john were available at Mohd Hafiz’s father stall namely, meat and chicken, sold at RM2.50 each, meat cheese and chicken cheese offered at RM2.50. Iced-milk tea was also on sale at the stall.
Mohd Hafiz said his business began at 10.30am until 7pm, or would close as soon as the targeted sale of 400 pieces was achieved.
He added besides some walk-in customers, many orders were also received by telephone and through social media such as WhatsApp.
Mohd Hafiz would normally be selling at Medan Ria Setia Raja Bazaar Ramadan here but this year due to the movement control order (MCO), he like all the other traders has to operate within the house compound from 7am until 7pm.
