Seven more cases for Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded seven positive Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 485 since the first positive case was reported on March 13.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said to date, 290 patients are still being treated at four hospitals namely Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

“A total of 179 patients have recovered and were discharged, while the death toll remains at 16,” he said in a press conference after attending a meeting at Sarawak Heart Centre yesterday.

He noted that there are still active cases in the state, especially in Kuching and Kota Samarahan, which have been identified as red zones.

“The Sarawak State Health Department will continue to carry out preventive measures and control activities including active case detection,” he said.

In the meantime, Dr Adham said his visit to Kuching yesterday was to monitor the current Covid-19 situation in the state, as well as preventive and control measures that taken by the State Health Department and all agencies involved.

“We also held discussions pertaining to matters that needed immediate attention so that the appropriate measures can be recommended,” he said.

He then thanked the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for their active involvement in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

“The Sarawak government has also given their contribution and support to address this crisis, including placing orders for medical equipment and protective equipment for the medical frontliners,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a statement regarding the seven new positive cases, SDMC said four were from Samarahan, two from Kuching and one from Miri.

They also added that the number of person under investigation (PUI) cases yesterday was reported at 177, compared to 135 cases the day before, and that 189 PUI cases are still awaiting lab test results.
