SIBU: An elderly woman was killed after she was hit by a van while crossing a road yesterday.
Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the accident happened around 11am at Ulu Lanang road here.
The victim was identified as Lik Sie Hua, 69, from Lanang road.
“We found that the van driven by a 60-year-old man was heading to Then Kung Suk road to deliver goods.
“When he approached the scene, the victim crossed the street suddenly.
“The driver failed to brake immediately and crashed into the victim,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Stanley added that the victim died on the spot while the man was unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
