KUCHING: The Samling Group of Companies has donated 80,000 surgical masks, 1,000 protective bodysuits, 50 thermometers and 50 bottles of 500ml disinfectants to Tawau Hospital in Sabah to help combat the spread of Covid-19.
The medical items were presented by the company’s representative Richard Ng to Tawau Hospital director Dr Norlimah Arsad and witnessed by her deputy Jaclyn Gonduman, in a simple handing over ceremony at Tawau Hospital. Richard was accompanied by Subramanian and Jose Mangaliag.
Samling chief executive officer Lawrence Chia in a statement said Samling was doing its best to help relieve shortages of much-needed medical supplies by hospitals in Sabah.
“It has always been our duty to assist the government and the community at large during this difficult time,” he said.
Chia said Samling had also donated medical items to Lahad Datu Hospital, and the next recipient will be the Kinabatangan Hospital.
Tawau Hospital thanked Samling for the generous donation, saying personal protective equipment (PPE) was the main requirement for frontline healthcare workers in the battle against Covid-19 pandemic.
“The PPE would help prevent the frontliners from being too exposed to microorganisms, hence reducing their risk of getting infected by the virus,” it added.
