KUCHING: Will Sarawak implement the conditional movement control order (CMCO) announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today?

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said he would have to discuss with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg first and decide if Sarawak should follow suit.

“I have not discussed with the Chief Minister, so I cannot comment first,” he told reporters at the Kuching International Airport today, where he was monitoring the arrival of the first batch of Sarawakian students returning from Kuala Lumpur.

“I rang up his private secretary just now and I am waiting for an opportunity to see him,” he said.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin had announced the CMCO, whereby almost all economic sectors would be allowed to resume on May 4, subject to certain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and conditions.

He said that businesses involving crowds where social distancing would be difficult to exercise would not be allowed to resume.

He also said certain social activities would be permitted starting May 4, including sport activities that did not involve close contact.

However, those that involved gatherings such as open houses, banquets, and religious activities at houses of worship would not be allowed.
