KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has called for caution when it comes to implementing policies.
The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, who was responding to the federal government’s announcement on the implementation of conditional movement control order (Cmco) where certain economic sectors and social activities are allowed from May 4, said it has always been the practice in the state that any federal policy or decision will not be taken line, hook and sinker.
“Looking at the Sarawak context is very crucial,” she pointed out
The Sarawak government yesterday decided to stick with its existing measures under the phase one to phase three of the MCO.
She said before relaxing the MCO, there are several matters that need to be taken into consideration in the state.
“We need to look into our health services facilities, capacity in carrying out more Covid-19 testing, sufficient isolation facilities, beds and medical equipments required in treating patients.
“Most important is the ability of our medical workers to face the possibility of a third wave of this virus infection happening when most economic sectors are allowed to open,” she stressed.
However, she said with due deliberation, the government will come to an appropriate decision in the best interest of the people.
“Here is a quote to remember from William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (president of Ghana) who said ‘we know how to bring back the economy back to life but what we do not know is how to bring people back to life’,” she said.
