KUCHING: The Sarawak government has allocated RM1.6mil capital expenditure to Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) to operate their mobile banking services in rural areas in Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said those in rural areas faced difficulty getting access to banking services, as such he initiated a collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia, BSN and other financial institutions to expand their banking services to these areas.
“As a result, we have agreed to extend the bank services equipped with MEPS automated teller machine (ATM) to serve the rural community,” he said when announcing the third Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 3.0) in a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.
He said with these services, it should lessen the burden of the rural recipients of the federal government’s Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) and Bantuan Prihatin National (BPN) including the BKSS.
“For a start, the BSN mobile counter will operate in Pakan, Sarikei from May 10 to 11 and this service will be further extended to other parts of the rural areas in the state,” he said.
