KUCHING: A total of 193 orphans and children from less fortunate families of Orphans Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Peryatim) Sarawak received ‘duit raya’ and cakes from the Head of State’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib.

The recipients comprised 59 children from Peryatim Miri, 62 from Peryatim Sibu and 72 from Peryatim Bintulu.

The donation was presented to them in a simple ceremony held at the respective Peryatim complexes yesterday.

The personal donation was made in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebrations.

Ragad, in a statement, said although the celebration for the two festivals would be held with the new normal scenario following the implementation of the conditional movement control order to curb the spread of Covid-19 disease, it must not be an obstacle to celebrate joy with the children.

“We hope and pray that the situation will go back to normal so that ‘jalinan kasih’ programmes like in the previous years can be held next year for us to celebrate joy with the children during Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebrations.”
