KUCHING: Political secretary to the Chief Minister, Tan Kai has lodged a police report over a viralled fake news which alleged the recent one-day State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting was held quietly to acknowledge and pass the validity of Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA 74).
The police report was made at the Tabuan Jaya police station yesterday.
In the report, Tan Kai said on May 21, at 7.24am, he received a message in Mandarin on his WhatsApp which was forwarded to him and the content of the message said the Chief Minister of Sarawak took the opportunity to pass the PDA 74 in DUN and it was approved.
“The message continued to say that all the elected representatives present did not say a word, except Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh. It urged the DUN Speaker to be more transparent,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Tan Kai added the message also said Sarawak and Petronas already had an agreement on the matter and not a single Sarawakian knew about it.
“Therefore, I made the police report to tell the police that the news is fake. And I want the police to investigate,” he said.
Tan Kai said he saw the meeting agenda of the one-day sitting.
“The DUN sitting on that day only touched on the Supplementary Supply Bills. The PDA 74 was never discussed,” he said.
He said Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How did put up a motion to discuss the PDA 74. However, the motion was dismissed and the DUN Speaker asked See to refer it to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Consultative Committee. Then the sitting continued with tabling of the Supplementary Supply Bills.
“Also, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh was absent during the sitting,” he said.
Tan Kai said the fake news was a defamatory to the Chief Minister, state government and DUN.
