SIBU: The Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) has ordered that passengers boat owners to stop plying the Sarikei-Tanjung Manis route with immediate effect today.

SRB Sarikei assistant controller Hazizan Sapiee said the directive was issued after a woman in Tanjung Manis was tested positive for Covid-19.

Currently only speedboats are operating the route.

“This directive is in accordance with the standard operating procedure of the movement control order (MCO) where public transportation could only operate between green zones,” she said.

However, she said boat service between Matu and Daro could operate as usual.

The 20-year old woman is a student of a college in Kuching.  On May 12 she was sent back to her home in Tanjung Manis and placed under a 14-day quarantine which was supposed to end on May 25.

However, results of two swabs on her later showed she tested positive for the disease.

She is now being treated at the Sibu Hospital. Authorities are now tracing people who might have come into contact with her.
