KUCHING: Muslims in Sarawak are urged to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities following the relaxation of restrictions allowing them to perform the Friday prayer and daily prayers at their local mosques.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said for the purpose, the mosque committee was reminded to uphold the SOPs in line with the guidelines provided by the government.
He said, the SOPs provided guidelines on social distancing, registration, hand sanitisers and the use of face masks.
“The circulars have been issued, including a directive to shorten the sermon and doa along with prohibiting the public from gathering after completing their prayers.
“We hope that Muslims can adhere to every directive issued by the government as it is for our own wellbeing,” he said when met yesterday.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Utilities Assistant Minister (Water Supply), explained that the total number of people allowed in a congregation was subject to the capacity of the mosque.
Meanwhile, on the relaxation to allow Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration, he said, while Muslims were allowed to celebrate the occasion, visiting one another was still prohibited.
“As of now, we have not obtained the guidelines on the korban ritual. What is certain is that the restrictions in the movement control order are still there.
“This included no mass gathering and the distribution of the korban meat is delivered directly to the recipient’s home without needing a large ceremony,” he said.
