SIBU: Seven out of eight mosques here have successfully conducted Friday prayers with strict compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department chief DSP Ariffin Bahar said at Masjid An-Nur, the congregation was limited to 50 persons.
“Those who did not have their names registered, we will not allow them to go in to pray.
“To ensure SOPs set by the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) are complied with, police enforcement teams comprising four personnel will be stationed at the mosques to monitor the situation,” he said Friday.
The seven mosques are Masjid An-Nur in Jalan Awang Ramli Amit, Masjid Darul Amilin in Taman Permai, Masjid Al-Muhajirin in Kampung Sentosa, Masjid Babusalamin in Kampung Jeriah, Masjid Darul Husna in Sibujaya, Masjid Darul Halim in Kampung Bahagia Jaya and Masjid Darul Istiqamah in Jalan Sukun.
However, one mosque in Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, the Al-Qadim Mosque, is still closed for renovation.
Recently, the government allowed mosques throughout the country to hold Friday prayers starting yesterday, but under strict SOPs.
Restrictions include limiting the number of worshipers to one-third of the prayer hall capacity, wearing face masks, bringing own prayer mats, temperature scanning, hand sanitiser placements and recording the name and contact number of worshippers.
